OAI Creates Event Graphics & Environmental Branding For 2017 NFL Pro Bowl Events
For the 2017 NFL Pro Bowl Week events, OAI’s branding expertise was utilized to create a total fan experience using event graphics at ESPN Wide World of Sports. The challenge in this project was creating an event branding package that would transform the large venue with graphics that were decorative, temporary and high-quality. OAI supplied its in-house design, fabrication and installation services to successfully create powerful and consistent branding that delivered on all design and marketing initiatives.
To start this process, OAI preformed a site survey to determine the branding opportunities around ESPN Wide World of Sports. This menu of branding options made it possible for the NFL to choose the areas they would like to be decorated around the park. Once the desired locations were determined, OAI was able to recommend applications for the outdoor event space and begin the design portion of the project.
The design challenge in transforming ESPN Wide World of Sports was designing a signage package that would provide consistent, vibrant and captivating graphics for variety of medias. To start this process, OAI’s designers utilized the brand guidelines provided by the the NFL to feature the organization’s logo and colors, participating teams and conferences, aspiring professional athletes and the Pro Bowl Trophy. OAI’s team used their creativity and attention to detail to form a conceptual design plan that would allow variation across the park’s entrance, Fanfest, playing fields, seating areas, locker rooms and media areas. Their thoroughness in planning gave the event a cohesive look and ensured all design elements were showcased.
To create a cohesive look on this scale, OAI had to ensure consistent coloring throughout the park. OAI was able to achieve this by using color management software in its art and production departments. OAI’s artist created custom color profiles based on the events signature bright Pantone colors. These profiles were then used to validate different medias in production. The variety of medias used for the event graphics included dimensional signage, mesh banners, vinyl banners, pressure sensitive adhesives, substrate signs and fabric banners. With this much variation in medias, OAI’s production team gave extra attention to the coloring of the various print medias to ensure accuracy and quality. As each item was completed, OAI organized the graphics based on location, sequence and delivery time.
The final stage of this project was installation. OAI’s team followed the signage branding guide to decorate the park. The guide had key sequences for the order of banners to follow. This can be most easily seen at the fields which required a specific arrangement for approximately 93,000 square feet of fence graphics. Thanks to diligent planning, OAI was able to install the branding around ESPN Wide of Sports quickly and accurately. The result was a beautifully transformed park where the event’s graphics received hundreds of thousands of impressions for the NFL brand.
